Kelly, Tisha and Val all did a fabulous job of modifying moves so that they would be safe for me, while still making sure I got a good workout. Maintaining a strong core through pilates work helped me avoid a lot of the aches and pains associated with pregnancy. I was also able to retain a great deal of my flexibility and balance. And all that upper body work has certainly come in useful now that I have a baby who loves to be carried around! "Three years ago I had back surgery, it went well, but due to nerve damage it left me with no feeling on my left leg. Due to this, it was hard for me to balance or walk normal, or for that matter any kind of physical activity. Finally after two years of just sitting around, I decided it was time to do something, but there was nothing that I could do unassisted. Till one day someone recommended Pilates. I could not walk; I definitely could not do Pilates. I searched everywhere, but nothing seems to fit my needs, until I saw the ad for Pilates 909. "Pilates has made me toned and strong and 'compact', especially in my midsection....something I had not felt before with just running, cycling, weight training and traditional ab exercises. I started doing Pilates about 2 years ago just to try it out and see if it would be a good complement to running. It has since become one of the things I most look forward to during the week. Running/cycling/walking all help keep me fit but its Pilates that I attribute to the compact and strong feeling I now have in my core. Never before have my abs felt so strong. "Pilates 909 has not only made a change in my body but my mind. I have to thank Cheryl and Sue for what they have done for me. When I started Pilates not quite a year ago I was in pain from a low back and Psosas issues and had not been able to excercise much due to the pain and had gained 20 lbs. I explained all this to Cheryl and she said lets give it a try. I now have very little or no pain now and am able to excercise again because of pilates. In the past two months Cheryl has even worked with me on an eating and excercise plan and I have noticed a significant change in my body and my mental outlook. "I am a BIG FAN of Pilates909 and a HUGE FAN of Cheryl Graves!!! Yup, the one and only ;0) I love to workout. I’ve tried anything and everything and I have to tell you that Cheryl pushes my workout to a whole different level and still manages to make it fun! WOW! If you want washboard abs, you gotta try this and get unbelievable results in no time. I could only name tons of good qualities about this place. I love the way Cheryl pays attention to all her client’s needs. She makes sure everything right, pampers us with a calm comfy atmosphere, a fuzzy and lots & lots of padding! But, don’t be fooled because she means business! She can challenge you and work you out with the hardest routines you could possibly think of! "Yolanda Macias has proven to be a miracle worker! I am a 48 year old woman with chronic back issues. "As time goes on, staying in shape becomes more and more of a challenge. Fitting cardio, weight resistance, flexibility training in to a busy schedule is daunting. Trying to make it fun and interesting, almost impossible. I have found all these things possible with Pilates 909! I build strength, muscle tone, flexibility and get a cardio workout all while doing Pilates. Best of all I never get bored. Time literally flies by! The trainers, led by owner Cheryl, are top notch. All hold themselves to a high level of excellence. Don’t think that doing Pilates on the floor of a gym with 20 other people even comes close to the personalized workouts you get at Pilates 909. One slight angle of the hip, one raised shoulder...totally changes the effectiveness of the exercise. I would never be able to achieve the same results at home or lost in a group. I like to make my workouts count! I have gained strength, flexibility, tone, stamina. I have more energy and feel more healthy than I have in years. "Over the past year, I have worked out at Pilates 909 three times a week. This experience has completely changed my life. Before I started doing Pilates, I was in the worst shape of my life. I was weak, irritable, and obese. My back was not strong enough to support me, and as a result it ached constantly. I felt suffocated by my fat. When I first met Cheryl, I told her I wanted to change my life. She supported me from the beginning. I worked with Cheryl and Kelly one-on-one for a while, and through Pilates we began building all of the muscles I needed to feel strong: core muscles, arm muscles, leg muscles, everything! As time went on, my strength and skills continually improved. Slowly and steadily, I lost the weight. Working out at Pilates 909 has been much more than just working out. I have found it is very important to my mental acuity, balance, strength and agility. I lost my trainer 3 years ago when she moved to be with her daughters who were in college. I have lost inches in my waist and am more flexible than I have been in years. "As a physician, I see the impact of people's physical choices on their health. From those who have a long standing workout regimen to those whose activity level encompasses only the daily trip to locate the remote and check the fridge, it affects each one's health. For both types of folks as well as those in between, Pilates is an excellent exercise regimen with one caveat -- a knowledgeable instructor is required. Sue Muscarella is just such a person. She is refreshingly upbeat, creative in her instruction and knows the musculoskeletal system intimately which is an absolute necessity in Pilates. Because of her extensive knowledge base, she is very capable of working with all levels of fitness clients. As one of those clients for the past couple of years in Pilates, I have been very impressed with Sue's comprehensive approach to physical fitness -- exercise, diet, nutrition, spirituality and time management - all the hallmarks of a healthy lifestyle. Sue incorporates these tenets gracefully and practically in each of her classes. "Pilates has really made a difference in my life. I started working out at Pilates 909 in the second trimester of pregnancy with my second child. Cheryl and Valerie were very knowledgeable and ensured I did the appropriate exercises for my condition. Before I started Pilates I had many physical pains that were consistent with pregnancy. "We originally started doing pilates with Cheryl last year to get ready for our wedding. In the past we had both struggled with our weight and needed to find a program that worked for us. "Lose 3 INCHES around your thighs in just 4 HOURS!!!" If you've ever heard claims such as this and actually read the fine print, you might find disclaimers about side effects ranging from dizziness to loss of consciousness -- and nobody probably gets these results anyways. Well, I'm here to say that I did, indeed, get these fabulous results thanks to the ladies of Pilates 909. Within 4 50-minute sessions, I was actually freaked out by how much thinner my thighs had gotten. Don't get me wrong - it was definitely a happy 'freaked out' - but freaked out nonetheless! I finally fit into the 'skinny jeans' every woman buys to motivate herself to get in shape, almost a year after I'd bought them! After about the 6th session, I found that I'd lost 10 pounds! For the first time in my life I actually get sad when I don't get to work out. That's because on top of the fantastic results I see, Cheryl, Tisha, and Val are such a joy to be around, who always celebrate every bit of progress you make with a little dance. And I really don't know how she does it, but Cheryl can pinpoint the smallest corrections you need to make in your form even if you have 18 layers of clothes on. She really knows the body and how to make it the best it can be!
